Massachusetts College of Art and Design is a public, independent institution that prepares artists, designers, and educators from diverse backgrounds to shape communities, economies, and cultures for the common good. In addition, artworks in all media are informally displayed throughout the campus, in hallways, stairwells, ramps, outdoor spaces, and classrooms. MassArt is headquartered at 621 Huntington Avenue in Boston, Massachusetts, and occupies a trapezoidal block of old and new buildings it has acquired over the last two decades. Most of its academic buildings were the former campus of Boston State College, acquired after BSC was merged with the University of Massachusetts-Boston.

The project called for transforming underutilized space within the Gym building into flexible and collaborative program spaces where a new interdisciplinary Design and Media curriculum can evolve.. Spotlight illuminates the dynamic visions of select graduating Film/Video BFA students, each presenting their unique exploration of contemporary storytelling through the lens of moving image and multimedia work. From compelling narratives to behind-the-scenes work, this exhibition celebrates the creative ingenuity of emerging talents at MassArt.

Massachusetts College of Art and Design provides state-of-the art facilities and studios housed in nine buildings along Huntington Avenue in the Fenway neighborhood of Boston, close by the Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. The college also offers certificate programs in Communication Design, Fashion Design, Furniture Design, and Industrial Design. The Fall 2019 undergraduate enrollment was 1780, graduate enrollment was 128 and continuing education enrollment was 187. MassArt is a Massachusetts state university and receives support from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Massachusetts College of Art and Design holds accreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and from the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. The college offers twenty-two areas of concentration in fine arts, design and art education, and awards one undergraduate degree, the Bachelor of Fine Arts, and graduate degrees including the Master of Fine Arts, the Master of Art in Teaching, Master of Design Innovation, and the Master of Architecture.

It is a member of the Colleges of the Fenway (a resources- and facilities-sharing collegiate consortium located in the Longwood Medical and Academic Area of Boston), and the ProArts Consortium (an association of seven Boston-area colleges dedicated to the visual and performing arts). MassArt supports its longstanding mission through public programs and educational offerings for local schools to make art and design accessible for all. This effort focused upon translating the college's priorities into a building program that enhances the academic and collaborative environment of the Design and Media programs, while creating a sustainable new signature building on campus.

Despite challenges and hardships we enjoyed live virtual drawing sessions with community members across the globe; seeing what your children created at your kitchen tables during our Saturday morning Art & Stories program; and bringing art to virtual classrooms when teachers and students needed inspiration the most. If you apply for Financial Aid, your cost of attendance will be determined for you and may vary based on your residency status and your living arrangements (on-campus, off-campus, or living at home/with relatives). Design is led by our team of product and interior designers, and done in collaboration with our network of artisans to prioritize local materials, showcase local craft techniques, and minimize the carbon footprint. The college also offers certificate programs in Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Furniture Design, and Industrial Design. The Fall 2016 undergraduate enrollment was 1648, graduate enrollment was 132 and continuing education enrollment was 260. The MassArt Art Museum (MAAM) is Boston’s only free contemporary art museum, a space to experience works by visionary artists at the forefront of contemporary art.

We do this through architecture, landscape design, furniture design, engineering, planning, research, construction, film, and community engagement. The campus of Massachusetts College of Art and Design is located on the lands of indigenous tribes, such as the Wampanoag and Massachusett. We make this land acknowledgment to pay respect to these communities – past, present, and future – and recognize the painful history of erasure and ongoing violence toward indigenous people in North America and across the world. As crafted by its two founders, English art educator Walter Smith and Boston Brahmin arts impresario Charles Callahan Perkins, the new institution would produce drawing teachers required in schools throughout the Commonwealth, while at the same time educating professional artists, designers, architects, and scientists. The goal would be to educate men and women in the creative process, not merely train them to draw. During its first decade, the state rented space for the school in several locations including Boston's Pemberton Square, School Street, and the Deacon House mansion on Washington Street. In 1886, the state built the school's first building at the corner of Exeter and Newbury Streets, and then in 1929 moved the school to its second built campus at Longwood and Brookline Avenues. In 1983, MassArt was relocated to the former campus of Boston State College at the corner of Longwood and Huntington Avenues, after the latter school's merger with the University of Massachusetts Boston. The new Design and Media Center building serves as the formal main portal into the academic campus, featuring a large, spacious entry lobby that can accommodate very large temporary art installations and exhibits. Contemporary media laboratories, classrooms, meeting spaces, project and installation spaces, and galleries are also located here. There is a permanent graphic timeline history of MassArt and its predecessor schools alongside a long ramp at the side of the entry lobby, highlighting and illustrating the accomplishments of faculty, staff, and students over the years. The graphic design faculty inspires and advocates that students not only value structure, surface, and form, but also engagements and interactions of design with clients, audiences, and the culture at large.

The Studio for Interrelated Media (SIM) undergraduate major is designed for student artists interested in a curriculum that supports idea-centered, interdisciplinary, and non-media specific artistic practice, alongside autonomous and collaborative working strategies and self-governance. In 2009, the Campus Center (located in the Kennedy building, at the corner of Huntington and Longwood avenues) was renovated, with additions of a new, two-story glass facade on Longwood Avenue, food services, and the college bookstore. The lower level includes ReStore, a student-run freecycling space to accept and redistribute surplus art supplies, materials, tools, equipment, and publications free of charge. MassArt is located on Huntington Avenue, which has been designated and signed as "The Avenue of the Arts" in Boston. The essential operation of the Graphic Design Department is to provide students with an educational environment in which to explore theoretical, practical and technical applications relative to a variety of design problems. So much energy in this channel is about selling good ideas. It is also the energy for truth and integrity, understanding the lessons from the past and transmitting these lessons. Many filmmakers, historians, and journalists carry this energy. Each of the Gates has its own number and its own unique quality, depending on the Center in which they are located. Through responding, people with this energy are able to behave with their power correctly or are behaving in a way that is powerfully correct. While the original North was fairly roomy inside, its GPU support was limited to 14 inches and its CPU cooler height to 6.6 inches (without the side fan bracket). The North XL bumps this up to support for air coolers as large as 7.2 inches(185mm) and GPUs up to 16.2 inches (413mm). Another gripe I had with the original North was its lack of E-ATX support. Staying on the topic of fan support, the North XL can fit as many fans as expected from a chassis of this size. The front of the North can fit up to 3x 120 or 140mm fans and the corresponding radiator sizes.

If you don’t have the gargantuan Torrent fans as mentioned above, the top of the case can fit three 140mm fans. One of the few gripes I had with the original North was the thumb screws needed to remove the side panels, and that carries over to this larger model. I suppose it’s more secure than the pop-off pegs that have become increasingly common. But it’s also worth mentioning that the thumbscrews here are very stiff and require a screwdriver to remove.
